Overview:
The Mechanical Engineer supports engineering projects from concept to implementation, focusing on high-performance equipment and systems used in industrial production. The role includes mechanical design, CAD drafting, data management, and coordination with international engineering teams to ensure compliance with global and local standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Engineering Systems & Data Management

Maintain Bills of Materials (BOM) using SAP B1 and SAP R3.

Create and update item codes in accordance with internal systems.

Extract and analyse technical data from engineering platforms.

Provide accurate technical data to support other departments.
CAD Design & Drafting
-
Create 2D and 3D drawings using Autodesk Inventor and SolidWorks.

Translate general arrangements, hand sketches, and specifications into technical drawings.
-
Apply drafting best practices and maintain drawing standards.
-
Develop and implement CAD standards in line with ISO 9001.
Mechanical Design & Calculations
-
Perform mechanical load calculations and prepare documentation for certification.

Ensure drawings meet tolerance, material, and specification requirements.

Review and approve technical drawings before manufacturing.
Stakeholder Engagement
-
Collaborate with clients to understand technical requirements and provide suitable solutions.

Conduct site visits to assess systems and recommend improvements.

Coordinate with international engineering teams to align on project standards.

Liaise with workshops and suppliers to ensure fabrication meets specifications.

Support the development of innovative, client-focused solutions.
Health, Safety, Environment & Quality (HSEQ)

Adhere to HSEQ policies and procedures.

Ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (Act 85 of 1993).

Participate in continuous improvement activities, including non-conformance resolution and documentation improvements.
Problem Solving & Continuous Improvement

Meet project deadlines and escalate issues as needed.

Identify and correct discrepancies in BOMs and drawings.

Resolve compatibility issues between regional components.

Troubleshoot CAD and software-related problems.

Assist with material selection and ensure drawing accuracy.

Contribute to process and service improvements.
Qualifications & Experience
-
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSc or BEng).

3–5 years of experience in mechanical design and drafting.
-
Proficient in CAD software (Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks).
-
Experience with heavy industrial equipment is advantageous.
